Video countdown to IDAHOBIT begins 09 May 2012

17 May is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). As part of the 'Life is not just black and white' series, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus in partnership with the NGO Support Centre and the Cyprus Community Media Centre are showcasing nine videos featuring voices from Cyprus speaking about LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans) issues. The video countdown begins 09 May 2012.

On Friday 18 May 2012 at the Peace Hall on Ledra Street in Nicosia, Cyprus there will be an accompanying 'Rainbow Living Library' event at the Peace Hall on Ledra Street, Nicosia on Friday 18 May 2012 from 19:00-21:00. The Rainbow Living Library is organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus in partnership with the NGO Support Centre and the Cyprus Community Media Centre and with support from the Pool of Trainers of the Cyprus Youth Council.  It is an event where the books that are available to read are … humans! A way for people to get in touch with issues, topics, identities and ideas, that others may face with ignorance, suspicion or prejudice. In this Rainbow Living Library, the 'books' will be sharing their experiences as LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans) people and their Allies/Supporters will be talking about their relationship with LGBT people and the LGBT community. The Rainbow Living Library is within the framework of a series of events entitled ‘Voices Against Homophobia’ organised by accept - LGBT Cyprus.

CCMC marks World Press Freedom Day

Today, 3 May 2012, the Cyprus Community Media Centre commemorates World Press Freedom Day. We hope you will help share information about the day through social media, which has played such a huge role in generating growth in freedom of expression, namely in unleashing the protest movement that began in Tunisia in 2010 before spreading through much of the Arab world and beyond. Take a moment to reflect on the ways in which we enjoy freedom of expression in our lives and the ways we share information, and download your e-cards in English, Greek and Turkish. Make them your profile pic on Facebook, and please share widely!
