CCMC would like to congratulate its friends Radio Astra and Radio Mayıs for winning the Kutlu Adalı Press Award for bilingual broadcasting. Basin-Sen newspaper announced the award over the new year weekend. Osman Kalfaoğlu (Radio Mayıs), Aral Moral (Radio Astra) and Ali Kişmir (GENC TV), were the recipients of the award, in recognition of their bicommunal broadcasting.
Speaking about the award, Osman Kalfaoğlu said: “This is the first time Basın-Sen has awarded a bicommunal programme. We should encourage more bicommunal cooperation between journalists and explore ways to allow journalists to be able to exchange information daily across the divide. There is a lot of misinformation about both communities reported in the media and if there was more cooperation between journalists, this could be prevented.”
The Kutlu Adalı Awards were set up in memory of journalist Kutlu Adalı, who was assassinated in front of his home in 1996. They are awarded every year by the Press Labourer’s Union (Basın-Sen) in recognition of media professionals working towards peace in Cyprus.
